"Against brute force and injustice the people will have the last word. That is victory!"  -- Che Guevara

Dear Kim

In you I see infinity

You one of a kind

For true beauty is in your heart

Reflected in your eyes

That speak in volumes

About your tenderness and kindness

Whatever happens

The light of genuine kindness

Remains pure

We are connected

Connected by God's invisible Hand

Thus we know your people

A people who had no rights

No land

Some found a way

They were carried forth by unseen hands

To a land that held promise for something better

A chance for change

A chance for something better

A chance for something full and wholesome

A chance to experience the fullness

Of life

A chance to experience the fullness of joy

In 2013 I was in Turkey and you were on my mind. Partly because I could identify with the loss of your people. I could identify with their pain and their struggles. The reason we were able to move forward in South Africa is because we had people like Grandpa Mandela who recognized that peace at any cost is no peace at all. It is through this reasoning that he gave birth to  the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. And I was a huge part of that transformation, young as I was. It is true that God put perfect praise in the mouths of babes and sucklings. Can you imagine a situation where those who had caused so much pain and suffering where refusing to come forward thus, slowing down the healing process. Suddenly a 19 year old appears from nowhere and demands to be heard, and her testimony makes headlines in the newspaper of the enemy? The testimony circulates the globe at the speed of lightning. This is the Majestic God who doesn't care for outer appearances, who doesn't care for meaningless talk and what the world says. This is the God who is moved by the heart of Ubuntu.

In 1962 grandpa Mandela said;

"When my sentence has been completed I will still be moved by my dislike of the race discrimination against my people when I come out from serving my sentence, to take up again, as best I can, the struggle for the removal of those injustices untill they are finally abolished once and for all."

Spoken in court 7November, at the end of the Old Synagogue Trial, when he was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment on charges on charges of incitement and two years imprisonment for leaving South Africa without valid travel documents.

We learn that;

"Kardashian, who has supported recognition of the Armenian Genocide on numerous occasions, encouraged President Obama and the US government to consider its acknowledgement. On April 21, 2011, days before the 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Kardashian wrote about the issue on her blog and sent a tweet to her fans."

"Armenian Genocide recognition refers to the formal acceptance that the massacre and forced deportation of Armenians committed by the Ottoman Empire in 1915–1923 constitutes genocide. The overwhelming majority of historians as well as academic institutions on Holocaust and Genocide Studies recognize the Armenian Genocide. As of 2014, the governments of twenty two countries, including Russia, France, as well as forty-three states of the United States of America, have recognized the events as 'genocide'.

The governments of Turkey and Azerbaijan deny the Armenian genocide."

We follow women who have made mistakes

Women fell down but rose and soared on wings like eagles

Women who share their truth with courage and boldness

So that we can learn and grow

Maya Angelou's truth is startling, rich

Captivating and just wholesome!

True power lies in that truth

Truth is love

Ms Angelou wasn't afraid to share with us that she was once a prostitute.

She is our guardian angel and a mother to generations yet unborn.

When she was awarded by President Obama the Medal of Freedom,

She said we were all her children and we better not deny her.

I'm reminded of Mary Magdalene.

The writer says;

"Everyone knows who this lady is, of course. She was a prostitute from the village of Magdala on the west shore of the Sea of Galilee who became a follower of Jesus after he had cast out seven devils; she was with him to the death and, according to the account in John, was the first to see the resurrected form. This is pretty much all the New Testament says about her and so most people think they know her. Well, a lot of men “knew” her in the Biblical sense. After all, she was a courtesan, but common men did not “know” her. She was not a common whore but a high class call girl who catered to the elite-both Roman and Hebrew. Even with this type of clientele, she still became a pawn in the attempt to trap Jesus. She was the very one who was taken before the council in the presence of Jesus. She was brought in and made to stand in the middle of the assemblage. Jesus was addressed directly, “Master, this woman was caught in the very act of adultery. In the law, Moses has laid down that such women are to be stoned. What do you say about it?” It was a trap. They expected him to show compassion and thus be accused of advocating the breaking of the law of their religion. He fooled them. In effect he said, “That’s fine. Let the law prevail. Go ahead and stone her. The one who is without sin has the high honor of casting the first stone and begin the fulfilling of the law!” What he said as recorded in the New Testament was, “That one of you who is faultless shall throw the first stone.” According to other records, he said more but no matter. One by one members of the council tucked tail and crept away. Jesus looked up and there Mary stood all alone. Jesus said, “Where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No, sir.” Jesus said, “Nor do I. You may go. Do not sin again.” Now you know that Mary was the one caught in adultery. The New Testament gives no evidence of this. It was in this incident that Jesus first met Mary.

There is still another surprise awaiting you. This Mary who lived in Magdala, and plied the oldest profession there, was-surprise-the sister of Martha, Ruth and Lazarus of Bethany. The rest of the family did not approve of her chosen way of life and so there was an estrangement. After this incident, Mary did “sin no more.” She had found one who loved her with no judgment or condemnation-accepted her as she was-and thus she dedicated herself to following him and promoting his cause. This complete about-face in life wrought reconciliation with her family in Bethany. She was the Mary who sat at Jesus’ feet to hang on his every word while Martha busied herself with things of the household. Martha was p.o.’ed and went to Jesus and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to come and lend a hand.” But Jesus said, “Martha, Martha, you are fretting and fussing about so many things, much of which is unnecessary. Mary has chosen the best way and it should not be taken away from her.” Now you know how attentive she was to his every word."

This I like a lot!

Oprah says Maya Angelou;

"Was an incredible role model for what getting older can be. Never a complaint about anything or anybody.

"Be patient with young people,"

She told us in Washington.

"Don't blame or judge them for what they don't know. Be careful how you speak to them. You were once, young too."

Oprah also says her all time favorite quote by Maya Angelou is;

"When people show you---or tell you---who they are, believe them the first time."

("Baby", she once chided me, "they show you and show you, and you still don't believe what you see. Why does it take you 29 times?" That conversation was life changing for me.)

I love this prayer, it is reminiscent of the love letter Abraham Lincoln wrote to his son's teacher, thus all of God's children who need guidance and unconditional love.

"May God give you…

For every storm, a rainbow,

For every tear, a smile,

For every care, a promise,

And a blessing in each trial.

For every problem life sends,

A faithful friend to share,

For every sigh, a sweet song,

And an answer for each prayer."

Masters of art have always depicted nudity in their master pieces. This is a celebration of a woman's feminine nature. I don't know what their motives were, however when but they seemed free, happy and uninhibited. It is in this light that I see and appreciate your nude photos as an artist. However I was reminded of a sad period in the chapter of our history.

A women's centre gives us a clear view about the story of Sarah Baartman.

"Saartjie Baartman was in her early twenties, she was persuaded by an English ship's doctor, William Dunlop, to travel to England to make her fortune. However, as a Khoikhoi woman she was considered an anthropological freak in England, and she found herself put on exhibition, displayed as a sexual curiosity. Dubbed The Hottentot Venus, her image swept through British popular culture. Abolitionists unsuccessfully fought a court battle to free her from her exhibitors.

Saartjie Baartman was taken to Paris in 1814 and continued to be exhibited as a freak. She became the object of scientific and medical research that formed the bedrock of European ideas about black female sexuality. When she died in 1816, the Musee de l'Homme in Paris took a deathcast of her body, removed her skeleton and pickled her brain and genitals in jars. These were displayed in the museum until as late as 1985.

After five years of negotiating with the French authorities for the return of Saartjie Baartman's remains, the South African government, together with the Griqua National Council which represents the country's 200 000 Griqua people, part of the Koi-San group, brought Saartjie Baartman back to South Africa. On Friday 3 May 2002, in a moving ceremony attended by many representatives of the Khoikhoi people, Saartjie Baartman was welcomed back to Cape Town. Her final resting place is in the Eastern Cape, where she was born."

How different is anyone who perpetuates exploitation in any way against any human being from the people who did that to Sarah Baartman?

May God Bless you and your family Kim. I love Kanye's music. I heard the other day that he gave a Grammy Award to one of his friends who was also nominated but did not ultimately win one. Kanye could see that his friend was a bit heart broken thus he was moved by the power of love. How awesome is that? Isn't that the teachings of Jesus? That is Ubuntu Kanye. May God take you to even greater heights. Heights that are only known to God. What you gave your friend is far greater than a Grammy. You gave him love, for love is greater than silver and gold.

Kim I have to tell you this story. One day we were walking about in Turkey, just exploring. A little girl who was with her mother suddenly runs to me. She demands in sign language that I open my hand. She places in the palm of my hand a blade of grass and demands;

"One dollar!"

"One dollar!"

"One dollar!"

Ha ha ha!!!

I couldn't exactly laugh while she was looking at me. Talk about broad day light robbery!

Lastly Oprah says Maya Angelo's greatest lesson to her is;

"You are enough!"

The first time she said that, the words felt strange. (She says)

"I'm enough.....of what?" I asked.

"You don't need another person, place or thing to make you whole. God already did that. Your job is to know it."

And this is the absolute truth!

"Money is not my richness. My richness is to walk on the earth barefoot." Bob Marley

May the grace of God remain in our hearts forever more.
